Application Value: With a refractive index of approximately 2.6—higher than that of conventional optical glass (around 1.5)—SiC enables the reduction of optical module size in AR glasses (by decreasing the number of lenses), thereby improving wearing comfort. Additionally, its high thermal conductivity helps prevent lens fogging caused by device heating, further enhancing the user experience.

Conventional optical glass, with a refractive index of only 1.7–1.8, limits the design possibilities of optical waveguides, making it difficult to balance clarity, field of view (FOV), and lens thickness. In contrast, silicon carbide (SiC)—a power semiconductor material widely used in new energy vehicles and industrial power supplies—is now gaining prominence as a high-performance substrate for AR optical waveguides. This is primarily due to the following properties of SiC:
